It’s easy to think we must clear everything away to find the light. Chop down the trees. Plow forward. Leave a wake behind us hoping to find some light.

The light I’m talking about is the goodness  - the things that feed our spirit, make us happy, make us whole, motivate us, and help keep the balance.

So many people are searching for these things.  Looking for it far and wide. Spending money to find it.  Running toward something or running away from something. Building walls around the places they feel stuck.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting light. Wanting to understand it or feel more of it.

But the journey doesn’t have to be that hard.

Here’s a theory, and it may sound cliché because it’s been said many times before:  You are the light.

Wherever you are and wherever you stand, you are the light.  It becomes brighter when you choose it, see it, and let it do what it does best.

You don’t have to clear the forest for the light. You can stand where you are.  Close your eyes and see your light.  Feel it even.  Think about everything that got you to this place. Even in the hardest times, there was still light somewhere along the way.

You found it before. You can find it again. Because it is with you wherever you go and has been with you the whole time.

Remember. You are your light. How bright it is, what colour it becomes, and who you share it with is up to you. It’s wonderful to see it in others and in the world around you, but yours is already with you. And you may be surprised how many people can see it too.  Even during the times that you cannot.

When it dims, look for the glimmer. If you can’t find the glimmer, keep believing it’s there. Just because you can’t see it for a moment doesn’t mean it’s gone.

Look for a reflection in the eyes of someone who cares. Seeing your light reflected in the eyes of another is a beautiful thing.

No matter what happens, the light is never as far away as it may seem. Know that it’s always there, it’s already yours and it’s not for the taking.
